Wembury War Memorial Village Hall opened on 29th July 1956, commemorating the First World War (1914-1918) and the Second World War (1939-1945). The Hall itself is the ‘memorial type’. A new memorial plaque was erected to those who lost their lives in the two world wars on 29th July 2006 for the 50th anniversary of the hall. The plaque was unveiled by Rvd. Terry Freeman. The war memorial reference is 79797. The Charity number is 1162268, registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
The Hall is the focal point for the village and provides an ideal venue for club activities, meetings, events and functions, managed by the Village Hall Committee and Trustees. The official charitable purpose of the Hall is “for the purposes of a village hall for the use of the inhabitants of the parish of Wembury for the use of meetings, lectures and classes and for other forms of recreation and leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants". Over the years the Hall has hosted a huge variety of events as well as ongoing clubs and community organisations.
The Parish and village are situated wholly within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty while the coastline forms part of the South Devon Heritage Coast.
